Advancing discussion about eating disorders in South Asians through personal experiences.
We address the stigma associated with eating disorders in the South Asian community by collecting lived experiences from those willing to anonymously write and share them.

Eating disorders and disordered eating somehow get left out in the discussion of mental illnesses. But they shouldn’t be.
The vision of Shuno is to create a space where people are able to express their story in their words. We facilitate awareness through uplifting others’ experiences and eliminating attitudes that minimize them.

Our Mission
Since many have faced stigma and culturally-incompetent treatment when trying to recover from an eating disorder, we want people to recognize they are not alone in overcoming this by creating a space for first-hand accounts to be heard.
Eating disorders
are not a choice
They are a mental illness and require acknowledgement in order to be overcome. Many who are uninformed about the disorder believe individuals choose this "lifestyle", but this perception is exactly what contributes to the high number of incidences.
are not a phase
Treatment for an eating disorder will look different in every individual. We draw focus to the need for culturally-competent care and how taking into account personal background is necessary for it to be effective.
deserve treatment
Despite the extensive research that has been done on the topic, eating disorders are still framed as being the individual's fault and only exclusive to certain demographics.
